Goddess Durga is described extensively in the Rigveda, Yajurveda, Atharvaveda, and in the Devi Mahatmya (Durga Saptashati). In the Durga Saptashati, the Goddess is praised as Shatru Nashini (Destroyer of Enemies), Dushta Vinashini (Annihilator of the Wicked), and Sarva Sankat Nashini (Remover of All Obstacles) — the same divine power that is channelled to the devotee through the Bisa Yantra.
